Barbados Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project |
Project/Location In Barbados, as in many other parts of the world, the idea of `integrated coastal management' (ICM) is considered to be the way forward. This is a process that goes beyond the traditional approach of planning and managing activities on an individual basis. Instead, the aim is to focus on the combined effects of all activities taking place at the coast to seek a desirable outcome. It is geared to dealing with the coastal environment as a whole - coastal land, the foreshore, and inshore waters - and being forward looking, as well as trying to resolve the problems of present day use of the coast. John Robinson was commissioned by Halcrow as team leader for the land use, tourism and environmental planning components of the ICM Plan for the South East, East and North West coasts of Barbados. |
Project Description The Plan provides detailed guidance for the management of coastal uses, development and regulation. Information is presented in five parts: 1. Background; 2. Identification of Priorities 3. General Guidance 4. Sub-Area Guidance 5. Implementation Needs Client Inter American Development Bank. Government of Barbados. |
