Project/Location
Consultant to the World Tourism
Organisation to prepare an
Environmental Resource
Management Plan as part of an
overall Strategic Tourism Master
Plan for Pakistan.

The Country is rich in cultural and
natural resources but like many
other countries, Pakistan is
environmentally fragile.
Unfortunately, the pattern of
tourism development that has
emerged has led to significant
environmental degradation. The
resource base of many areas
show decreases in environmental
quality. The visible impacts of
tourism are there for all to see -
unplanned development, effluent
discharge, garbage, and erosion of
the natural, built and social
environment.

It is within this context that tourism
development concepts were
identified and a development
framework proposed.

Project Description
The Environmental Plan presents a
detailed analysis and assessment
of the tourism resource base and
proposes an integrated approach
to environmental resource
management, promoting sustainable
development through the concept
of nature, heritage and community
based tourism.

The short term environmental action
plan included six key projects:

1.Land use Planning and
Environmental Management
Technical Assistance Programme.

2. Sewage Treatment and Solid
