Project/Location Dubai Internet City (DIC) is the World's first free trade zone for `ebusiness' and an important regional hub for the global IT industry. The site is on 300 hectares, 25 kilometres west of Dubai's Central Business District. Project Description Halcrow commissioned John Robinson as senior urban designer responsible for the conceptual planning and design of DIC. The concept contains a variety of relevant land use components including: 1. Internet university, campus, student accommodation 2. Business hotel/convention centre Film/TV production and studios 3. Offices and apartments 4. Retail mall, leisure facilities, amphitheatre, cinemas; and free zone for hardware/software. |

The main feature of the design includes: 1. A prestige lakeside setting with high quality open spaces and intimate pedestrian environment. 2. Water front and landmark buildings emphasising key uses and activity nodes. 3. Perimeter car parking linked to alternative transport network, smart cars, water taxis and shaded footpaths.
