Project/Location
Dominica is located within the
Windward Islands of the
Caribbean. After the success of
the Ecotourism Development
Programme implemented in 2006,
CHL Consultants in association
with John Robinson Planning and
Design was commissioned by the
Government to update the Tourism
Master Plan 2005-2015.

A growth objective was set - the
equivalent of a yearly 10% growth
rate of tourism revenue. This
growth objective implies a total
tourism revenue target of EC$400m
by 2015 compared with an
estimated EC$150m in 2005.

Project Description
Recognising that the present
'nature island' destination
positioning limits the sector's
potential to deliver on this target,
the Master Plan outlines a set of
guidelines to reposition the sector
from a primarily nature destination
to one that encompasses a broader
tourism product base, while at the
same time maintaining Dominica's
'green island' destination appeal.

The Plan covers:

1. Strengthening of existing
products.

2. New product development.

3. Designation of priority areas for
tourism development.

4. Strengthening tourism
infrastructure.

5. Improved and strengthened
destination management.
