Project/Location
John Robinson Planning & Design in
association with Chapman Warren
were commissioned to prepare an
Urban Design, Tourism and
Transportation Strategy for the
town centre of Caerphilly, South
Wales. Caerphilly's strategic
location provides potential for it to
become the 'market place' for the
South Wales Valleys. The
proposals allow that status to be
both aspired to and achieved within
a reasonable but realistic time
frame.

Caerphilly Town Centre Study
Project Description
The main issue was to resolve the
number of diverse and competing
elements so as to achieve the
necessary improvements and
create the essential linkages that
will consolidate the centre as a
cohesive whole.14 Action Area
proposals were put forward
including costs and implementation
mechanisms. Most of the traffic
calming measures, townscape and
landscape proposals, have been
implemented.
